Stumpy's Pizza Is Leaving 138 S. Wilcox as Rivers Church Buys the Building

By Connor Tien, DougCo Social

Stumpy's Pizza, a Castle Rock original for more than 25 years, has to leave its longtime home at 138 S. Wilcox Street. Rivers Church went under contract to buy the building, and the pizzeria is now looking for a new place to land.

The good news for regulars: it is not gone yet. The owners say Rivers Church extended their lease through the end of August 2026, so there is still time to grab a slice before the doors close on Wilcox.

The short version: Stumpy's isn't failing. It's being displaced by a building sale, it's open through the end of August, and it's hunting for a new spot. Support it in the final weeks, and we'll update this page when a new location is announced.

What's happening

Rivers Church, which launched in Castle Rock in September 2024, is working to buy the section of strip mall next to the Philip S. Miller Library — 136, 138, and 140 South Wilcox Street — for a permanent downtown home. Per CBS Colorado, the church is under contract to purchase the three addresses from two different owners, needs roughly $4.5 million, and had fundraised about 70 percent of it. The church's offices are already located at 140 S. Wilcox.

That sale would displace the longtime tenants in that strip, Stumpy's among them. In news coverage, the church has said it hopes to reach an agreement that works for everyone; the businesses, meanwhile, have to plan for life after Wilcox.

What Stumpy's said

In a late-June message shared around town, the Stumpy's team asked neighbors to come in and support them through their final weeks at the current location:

"We don't have an exact final day. So please come in and support us in our final weeks. We are still looking for a new location but sadly we have not found one yet. Rivers Church has extended our lease until the end of August. Thank you everyone who has come out and supported our staff in the final weeks at 138 S. Wilcox."

So the plan, for now: open through the end of August, then relocate — with the new address still to be determined.

About Stumpy's Pizza

Stumpy's has been serving Castle Rock for more than 25 years, according to the restaurant, with a menu built around authentic New York-style thin-crust pizza alongside wings, burgers, and other bar fare. The 138 S. Wilcox spot pairs a full bar with pinball and arcade games — a casual, family-friendly, no-frills room that regulars have leaned on for lunch specials and game nights for a long time.
