Leave Specialist

About the Role

The Leave Specialist administers and supports employee leave programs in compliance with federal, state and company policies, serving as the primary contact for employees and managers on leave of absence requests. The role tracks continuous and intermittent leave, coordinates return-to-work processes, and ensures compliance with Colorado FAMLI, FMLA and related laws. It is based at Canvas's corporate headquarters in Lone Tree.

Responsibilities

• Administer and track employee leaves of absence in compliance with FAMLI, FMLA and related laws
• Support employees with leave claim initiation and explain their rights and responsibilities
• Review documentation to determine eligibility and send required notices on regulatory timelines
• Coordinate return-to-work processes including fitness-for-duty and job reinstatement
• Coordinate FAMLI benefits, short-term disability and PTO so employees do not exceed full compensation
• Generate reports and metrics on leave usage, trends and compliance

Requirements

• Knowledge of HR policies, compliance and laws supporting leave and benefits administration
• Fluent working knowledge of applicable leave and accommodation laws at federal, state and local levels
• Strong math, analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Proficiency in HRIS platforms, MS Office and MS Teams
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
