About the Role

The Victim Witness Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting victims by minimizing the negative effects of the criminal justice system. They offer education, referrals, and assistance with safety planning while maintaining accurate documentation of all contacts and interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and evaluates arrest reports to ascertain case applicability to the Domestic Violence Fast Track Program.
  • Provides relevant information to victims regarding court processes and facilitates community resource referrals.
  • Documents victim demographic information and tracks services provided, including phone calls and meetings.
  • Greets victims and explains the criminal justice system and procedures.
  • Assists prosecutors in case preparation and schedules witness appointments.
  • Inputs victim/witness contact information into the District Attorney database.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in victim assistance, human services, criminal justice or four years’ experience in crime victim services.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License upon hire.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting.
