Five new sculptures went up around Castle Rock this summer as part of the 2026 Douglas County Art Encounters program, and the town announced the full lineup Monday. They'll be on display for a year in parks and public spaces across town.

How the Program Works
Castle Rock has partnered with Douglas County Art Encounters since 2009. Each summer, the town's Public Art Commission picks a new class of sculptures, which spend a year on display around town before rotating out. Artists receive a $1,500 stipend from the Public Art Fund to loan their work, and the pieces are for sale while on display — if one sells, a portion of the proceeds goes back into the fund. This year's five range from $4,000 to $16,000.
The Bear That Stayed
One 2025 sculpture never left. High Five, the high-fiving bear by artist Christine Knapp at Third and Perry streets, became enough of a community favorite that the Public Art Commission bought it for the town's permanent collection. It's there to stay, paw up.
