Castle Rock's 6th Annual Rock-It Run Returns July 4: Half Marathon, 5K, Free Kids' Run
Castle Rock's biggest Fourth of July race tradition is back, and it's not your average 5K. The 6th Annual Rock-It Run takes over the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Saturday, July 4, 2026 with a half marathon, a 5K, and a free 1K for kids — plus a Patriotic Pets Parade, a beer-and-brat finish line, and a free post-race concert. Every dollar raised goes to the Live Free Association, supporting veterans and first responders facing PTSD.
It's the middle leg of Run to Change Lives' three-race ROCK & RUN Series — the same Castle Rock crew behind the March ShamROCK Stampede and the Thanksgiving morning Turkey ROCK Trot. I've run the Shamrock twice and the Turkey Trot once — the race-day energy is consistent across all three, and the cause it supports is second to none.
Early-bird pricing closes Monday, May 18. If you're planning to run, lock in the lower tier this weekend.

The Other Two Races in the ROCK & RUN Series
The Rock-It Run is the Fourth of July anchor in a year-round series Run to Change Lives produces out of the Douglas County Event Center:
- ShamROCK Stampede — Saturday March 14, 2026. The St. Patrick's Day weekend race ran the RRCA Colorado State Championship 10K (10:00 AM), a 5K (10:15 AM), and a free 1K Kid's Sham-Scram (10:50 AM). Course follows the East Plum Creek Trail with a costume contest, Indoor Health Expo, and post-race Irish-themed festival. Same Live Free Association beneficiary as the Rock-It Run. The 2027 edition will be the 9th annual — registration typically opens in late fall.
- Turkey ROCK Trot — Thursday November 26, 2026 (Thanksgiving morning). Castle Rock's largest-attended running race. 5K Family Fun Run/Walk/Stroll at 9:00 AM and a free 1K Kid's Dash at 8:30 AM, with an assigned wave system based on pace. This one benefits the Help & Hope Center (food, housing, and emergency assistance for Douglas and Elbert County neighbors in crisis) — different beneficiary, same race-day team. 2026 registration opens later this year at runtochangelives.org/turkeyrocktrot.
Three races, three causes, one local nonprofit. If you do the Rock-It Run and want to keep going, the Turkey Trot is the natural next.
Bottom Line
Whether you're chasing a half-marathon PR, walking the 5K with the family, or just there for the brat-and-beer finish line, the Rock-It Run is one of Douglas County's biggest free-to-watch community traditions. Register before Monday, May 18 to lock in early-bird pricing.
