Douglas County's rebuild of Highlands Ranch Parkway between Broadway and Burntwood has completed its final traffic shift. Per the county's project page, "crews completed the final traffic shift for the project" the week before Nov. 1, 2026, and traffic is now in its final configuration with no further shifts planned.

What's being rebuilt

The project is a full reconstruction of the original concrete roadway: removing and replacing the pavement, curb, gutter and sidewalk. It adds a raised center median for driver safety and keeps the existing bike lane, along with other pedestrian improvements.

Work began in summer 2026. Phase one started June 8 with the westbound lanes between Burntwood Way and Broadway, plus the north-side curb, gutter and sidewalk.

Current closures

A bike and pedestrian trail segment between East Highlands Ranch Parkway and Ridgeglen Way is closed for the rest of the project. The county's detour sends people to the crossing at Burntwood Way, and asks that no one enter the closed trail or move the barricades.

This week, crews are focused on concrete work on the north side of the parkway, which requires sidewalk closures on the north side between Broadway and Burntwood Way; pedestrians and cyclists should use the south-side sidewalks instead. The county says crews will also work on traffic signals in the area through November and December, which may require occasional traffic holds on Highlands Ranch Parkway and neighboring streets. Drivers should allow extra travel time; the posted work-zone speed limit is 35 mph.

Work hours: Monday–Friday, 7am–7pm; Saturday, 8am–6pm. Paving and saw-cutting may run until 10pm.
