Best Cozy Winter Drinks in Castle Rock
By Connor Tien, DougCo Social · Taste-tested fall/winter 2025 · Updated September 2026
This started as a quest “along the lines of Frodo, Luke Skywalker, and Harry Potter’s quests”: find the best seasonal coffee drink in Castle Rock. Over three months I worked through the fall and winter menus at Apres, Oo•de•Lally, COFF33, and LaLa’s — flights, lattes, and hot cocoas. Here’s what actually won, shop by shop.
Seasonal menus rotate every year. The verdicts below are from the 2025–26 menus, and the quest re-runs when the new fall menus drop — this page gets the new winners.
1. Apres Coffee (downstairs in Ecclesia)
221 Perry St., Castle Rock, CO 80104
The winner
Fudge Break
Maple walnut fudge syrup topped with cold foam. Connor ran the whole fall menu at Apres with Madi behind the bar and called the Fudge Break the winner of the bunch — and got the "infamous Coco Loco (if you know you know)" while he was at it. (Castle Rock Crew, Nov. 18, 2025)
What we tried
- Fudge Break (fall winner)
- Coco Loco
- A bunch of fall favorites, in his words
On the list, not yet tried
- Cherry Chairlift "with all the add-ons" — top of his winter-menu list (Dec. 9, 2025)
Coffee bar tucked downstairs inside Ecclesia — the most hidden-feeling stop on this list.
2. Oo•de•Lally Coffee
488 Crystal Valley Pkwy., Castle Rock, CO 80104
The winner
Rudolph (from the Christmas Flight)
White chocolate, caramel, and cherry. "Sweet, but not over the top, and it tasted exactly like something you should be drinking in December." The Christmas Flight — four mini drinks: Grinch, Nutty Elf, Rudolph, Frosty — is the move if you want to try the whole lineup at once. (DougCo Drop, Nov. 19, 2025)
What we tried
- Christmas Flight: Grinch, Nutty Elf, Rudolph (winner), Frosty
- Fall Flight, ranked: 1) Pumpkin Pancake, 2) Pumpkin Spice Latte, 3) Jack O’ Lantern, 4) Brown Sugar Cinnamon Latte
On the list, not yet tried
- Pecan Pie — "I’ve heard such good things"
Big windows, rooftop patio, and seasonal drink flights — four minis at a time.
3. COFF33
20 Wilcox St., Ste 111C, Castle Rock, CO 80104
The winner
The Gilmore
Salted maple — "you had me at Salted Maple" when the quest launched, and after trying it: "The Gilmore did not disappoint (as expected)." Pairs with their pumpkin coffee cake, and it kept its spot when the winter menu came around. (Castle Rock Crew, Sept. 23 + 30, 2025)
What we tried
- The Gilmore (with pumpkin coffee cake)
On the list, not yet tried
- Peanut Brittle and the Swedish Ginger Snap off the winter menu
- Carrot Cake Drink
Downtown Wilcox spot a block from Festival Park — grab one before the farmers market.
4. LaLa’s
340 S Wilcox St., Unit B, Castle Rock, CO 80104
The winner
Salted Caramel Peanut Butter Latte + Rocky Road Hot Cocoa
His two late-fall repeats before the menu flipped — "my only mistake was not asking for a spoon to scoop the remaining peanut butter out of the mug." Earlier in the year the Belgian Cookie Latte earned "one of the better dessert-drink hybrids I’ve tried in town." (Castle Rock Crew, Nov. 25, 2025; DougCo Drop, June 25, 2025)
What we tried
- Salted Caramel Peanut Butter Latte
- Rocky Road Hot Cocoa
- Belgian Cookie Latte
- Black cold brew, plus their gluten-free pastries
On the list, not yet tried
- Christmas Cookie Shake — "yeah, I think I’m gonna have to get me one of those"
Bakery-café energy — the drinks compete with a full gluten-free and dairy-free pastry case.
5. Bearded Man Coffee
421 Perry St., Castle Rock, CO 80104
Still untested
Autumn Bliss (seasonal)
The one quest stop still officially open: their seasonal Autumn Bliss made the original shortlist — they even shared a Pumpkin Coffee Cake recipe built around it — but it never got a formal verdict. Consider this the standing to-do. (Castle Rock Crew, Sept. 23, 2025)
On the list, not yet tried
- Autumn Bliss
Perry Street roaster — the shortlist member awaiting its verdict when the quest resumes.
How this list works
No rankings by committee, no scraped review averages. One person drank the drinks, paid for them, and wrote down which ones he’d order again — first in the Castle Rock Crew newsletter as it happened, now collected here. Shops aren’t paid to be included and can’t pay to win. When a drink hasn’t been tried, it says so.
