Where to Play Mahjong in Douglas County
By Connor Tien, DougCo Social · Updated June 2026
Mahjong (or Mah Jongg) is having a moment in Douglas County — and not just at the senior center. Right now you can play over a beer in Castle Rock, a glass of wine in Parker, or a coffee in Highlands Ranch, take a beginner class with a former Bachelorette, or join a real league. Here is the full map of where to play, learn, and find your table — across Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Parker, Lone Tree, and beyond.
New to the game? Start here
Almost everyone in Douglas County plays American Mah Jongg — a tile-based game that mixes strategy, memory, and a little luck, often described as somewhere between rummy and a card game. You build a winning hand of 14 tiles by matching one of the hands printed on the annual National Mah Jongg League card, drawing and discarding until someone calls “Mah Jongg!”
The set has three suits (Dots, Bams, Craks), honor tiles (Winds and Dragons), Flowers, and Jokers. Learning to read the card is the real skill — and the good news is that every group below will teach you, hands-on, in a single sitting. You do not need a set, a partner, or any experience to start.
