The experience

KB Ranch sits on open acreage in Castle Rock with sweeping Front Range views — and it's a working ranch, home to Highland cows, Valais Blacknose sheep, fainting goats, and mini donkeys. A few nights this summer, Chef Juwanza of Southern Jewel Hospitality turns that backdrop into a four-course, farm-to-table dinner under the open sky, each course paired with a handcrafted cocktail. You don't pick a menu — the chef builds a new one around the season every time, so it's a surprise. Good food, good drinks, good company, golden-hour views, a communal table. 30 seats a night, so they fill up fast.

Meet the chef (and the bar)

Chef Juwanza Thomas — Southern Jewel Hospitality

Juwanza grew up in central Arkansas, learning to cook from his grandmother. Her name was Jewel — which is where the company gets its name. That Southern foundation followed him through kitchens in Dallas, Houston, and Austin, where he was a head chef in a James Beard–nominated restaurant group and built range across Italian, French, Japanese, Mexican, and Southwest cooking. In Colorado he went deep on the hands-on craft — butchery, bread, pastry, open-fire cooking, and a farm-to-fork approach — and founded Southern Jewel in 2022. These supper club nights are where all of it comes together: a table he cooks for like guests in his own home.

The bar — Intoxicology Mobile Mixology

“Craft cocktails without the craft attitude.” They pair a handcrafted cocktail with each course, built around the season to match whatever Juwanza is serving — the same surprise-and-creativity approach as the food.

What time does it start?

Dinners begin at 6:30 PM.

What will be served?

That's half the fun — it's a surprise. Chef Juwanza builds a brand-new four-course menu around the season for every dinner, so the theme and dishes change each time and aren't revealed until close to the event. You're not ordering off a menu; you're along for whatever he's creating that night.

What about drinks?

Each course is paired with a handcrafted cocktail from the mixologist, built seasonally to match the menu.

Are there non-alcoholic options?

Yes — non-alcoholic beverages and mocktails are available.

Can you do gluten-free or dairy-free?

At this time the chef can't guarantee gluten-free or dairy-free accommodations, so please plan accordingly.

Who's cooking?

Dinner is by Chef Juwanza Thomas of Southern Jewel Hospitality. Raised in central Arkansas by his grandmother Jewel — the company’s namesake — he cooked through Dallas, Houston, and Austin (including a head-chef role at a James Beard–nominated restaurant group) before founding Southern Jewel in 2022. His food blends Southern roots with Italian, French, Japanese, Mexican, and Southwest influences, plus open-fire and farm-to-fork cooking.

Who's behind the bar?

Cocktails are by Intoxicology Mobile Mixology — "craft cocktails without the craft attitude" — pairing a handcrafted, seasonal cocktail with each course.

What's the seating like?

Communal, shared-table dining — you'll sit with other guests, so it's as much about the company as the food. Seating is intentionally limited to 30 to keep the night intimate.

What’s the refund policy?

The $5 deposit is non-refundable; the $105 balance is invoiced a few days before the dinner and is also non-refundable once paid.

What should I wear?

It's up to you — dress to impress or keep it comfortable, since you'll be out on a ranch. Either way, bring a layer for when the sun drops.
