The Town of Castle Rock has finished widening Crowfoot Valley Road.
The Town announced on Sept. 21, 2026 that the Crowfoot Valley Road widening project is complete, on budget and on schedule, delivering safety and traffic flow improvements between Knobcone Drive and Macanta Boulevard. Work began in summer 2025 and wrapped up this month.
Crowfoot Valley Road connects the northeastern part of Castle Rock, the rest of Douglas County and Interstate 25, and the Town says the need for the upgrade was identified back in the 2017 Castle Rock Transportation Master Plan, then shaped through multiple meetings and open houses with area residents.
What changed on the road
Per the Town's announcement, the completed project includes:
- A new traffic signal at Sapphire Pointe Boulevard
- Two through lanes in each direction
- Dedicated left- and right-turn lanes at intersections where warranted
- Taller medians where possible, and narrower travel lanes, which the Town says have proven to reduce vehicle speeds compared to standard-width lanes
- New sidewalks
- On-street bike lanes
The project also rebuilt existing asphalt pavement that was in poor condition and rehabilitated the sanitary sewer system running underneath.
Separately, Douglas County has completed its own traffic signal installation at Crowfoot Valley Road and Macanta Boulevard, on the east side of the road. The Town says that signal project was completed by the County and was distinct from the Town's widening work.
Who paid for it
The Town puts the widening project's construction cost at approximately $8.7 million, with Douglas County contributing $1.5 million, part of which supported design-phase expenses. Road projects in Castle Rock are primarily funded through revenue from new-development impact fees and taxes on construction materials, per the Town.
What's left
Landscaping along the corridor is being held off because of continued dry weather. The Town says delaying it avoids unnecessary water use and gives new plants a better shot at establishing once conditions improve. When crews come back to finish that work, expect intermittent lane shifts and closures, marked with roadside signage; the Town says delays should be minimal.
Crowfoot Valley Road is one of several infrastructure projects moving through Castle Rock this year, alongside the 2026 downtown parking study, the Industrial Tributary Trail connecting downtown to Miller Park, and the Town's water master plan update.
