The castle turned 100 in 2026: “The castle was built between 1924 and 1926 by Denver real estate man Charles Alfred Johnson, who modeled it on a 15th-century Scottish castle right down to the stone (it went by Charlford back then). Cattlewoman and art collector Mildred ‘Tweet’ Kimball bought it in 1954, renamed the ranch Cherokee, and set up the foundation that still runs it today.” (Castle Rock Crew, June 23, 2026)
