Child Life Specialist

About the Role

As a member of the psychosocial team, the Child Life Specialist collaborates with healthcare teams to provide emotionally safe, family-centered care. They utilize developmentally appropriate techniques to help patients cope and adjust to their medical experiences.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient/family psychosocial needs and adapt services accordingly.
• Provide education on child life services and the emotional impact of healthcare.
• Offer guidance to child life students and promote professional development.
• Implement interventions to support emotional processing and coping skills.
• Facilitate psychological preparation and procedure support for patients undergoing medical procedures.
• Document care plans and participate in departmental committees and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Child Life, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or Education.
• Completion of a 600-hour child life internship under a certified specialist.
• Certification as a Child Life Specialist.
