Douglas County Fair & Rodeo 2026: The Complete Guide
By Connor Tien, DougCo Social · Updated June 2026
The county's biggest event is back at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Castle Rock from July 24 to August 2, 2026 — ten days of ProRodeo, a Trace Adkins concert, the parade and cattle drive down Wilcox, a carnival, the Farm-to-Table brunch, 4-H shows, and a whole lot of fair food. Here's everything happening, plus a few things I learned going last year.
What I learned going last year
We did it as two separate trips — one fair day, one rodeo day — and I'd recommend that; there's too much to cram into one. Either way, get there early to grab a seat; we still ended up up at the top of the stands even arriving early, and they fill in fast. Bring folding chairs for the outdoor arena and the grass, and dress for the weather — late July out here is hot and sunny, so sunscreen, a hat, and water go a long way.
Heads up on traffic: even leaving early we got backed up heading east from Plum Creek (and yes, someone rode the right lane and cut over to turn into the fairgrounds — a great way to start rodeo day). We still found parking inside, and on the days it runs, the shuttle from Douglas County High School skips the crunch entirely.
What I'd do again: the Mutton Bustin is my personal favorite — don't miss it. Feeding the goats at the petting zoo was a hit. We ate at the Woodhill Small Batch BBQ food truck and really enjoyed it — I went with the brisket, someone in our group got the pulled pork sandwich and loved it. They rotate all over Douglas County — I've also spotted them at the Castle Rock Car Show and 105 West Brewing, so it's worth checking their calendar. And the kids rode a bunch of the carnival rides; the roller coasters are a little herky-jerky, but the kids didn't care one bit.
The essentials
Times and prices can change — always confirm on the official fair schedule.
The concert & live music
Trace Adkins headlines opening night, Friday, July 24 — the country star behind “You're Gonna Miss This” and “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk.” Tickets run $65–$75 plus fees through the official fair site. Opening night also closes with a drone show (with an encore later in the evening).
Beyond the headliner, there's live music across the run — the Jeffrey Alan Band, Jeff Goodwin, the Western Flyers, Jessica Loobey, and the Country Roads Showcase all play the fair.
The rodeo
🏆 This is a genuinely top-tier rodeo, and it keeps getting better. The Douglas County Fair & Rodeo was named 2025 Large Rodeo of the Year and Best Ground of the Year at the Mountain States Circuit Finals. Each year brings bigger purses and stronger fields — recent years have drawn ProRodeo stars like barrel racing's Hailey Kinsel — and it's still got that local heart, with Douglas County competitors in the mix. The four ProRodeo performances sell out every year (tickets about $20–$35 + fees), so don't wait.
The ProRodeo runs in the back half of the fair in the outdoor arena. The signature “Roughstock at the Rock” night — bareback, broncs, and bulls — kicks things off Thursday, July 30, followed by PRCA Rodeo performances and Patriot Night Pro Rodeo on Friday, July 31 (7–9 p.m.). There's also WPRA barrel racing and breakaway.
For the family, don't miss Mutton Bustin (little ones riding sheep — online registration, fills up fast), the kids' Stick Horse Rodeo, and the Farm Bureau Buckaroo Family Rodeo.
The parade & cattle drive
On Saturday, July 25, the Douglas County Fair & Rodeo Parade rolls through downtown Castle Rock, presented by the Castle Rock Chamber in partnership with the Town of Castle Rock. It starts on the south end of town and flows down Wilcox to 4th, to Perry, and ends at the Castle Rock Fire Department — complete with a real cattle drive through the heart of downtown. It's the most quintessentially Castle Rock morning of the year. Stake out a curb spot on Wilcox early.
Carnival, food & family fun
- 🎡 Carnival & rides — opens Friday, July 24 at 4:00 p.m. and runs all week with rides, midway games, and food vendors. Buy carnival wristbands online in advance through the fair's ticketing partner to save time.
- 🐐 Kodiak Ranch Petting Zoo — hands-on animals for the kids, plus the fair Marketplace for shopping.
- 🚜 Lawn Tractor Pull & Draft Horse Show — the Lawn Tractor Pull runs Saturday, July 25, with draft horse pulls and shows during the fair.
- 🚗 Vintage Car Club of Castle Rock Car Show — classic cars on the grounds.
- 🎨 Creative Arts — open-division exhibits, quilt judging, and a bake sale.
The Farm-to-Table brunch
One of the fair's most special tickets: a sit-down Farm-to-Table brunch on Sunday, July 26, served in a tent on the grass fields at the fairgrounds — local food, long tables, the whole farm-to-table experience. Tickets include admission to the fair, and they sell out, so grab them early through the official fair website.
4-H & Junior Division shows
The heart of any county fair: Douglas County's 4-H kids show their animals all week — dog agility, llama, horse, beef, sheep, swine, goat, rabbit, and poultry shows, plus showmanship and master showmanship rounds. Most are free with grounds admission and genuinely fun to watch, even if you don't have a kid in the ring.
