About

The Castle Rock Museum is operated by the Castle Rock Historical Society and housed inside the 1875 Castle Rock Denver & Rio Grande Depot — one of the most historically significant buildings in town. The Denver & Rio Grande Railroad was the first narrow gauge line in the United States, built by General William Jackson Palmer between Denver and Colorado Springs in 1871. Castle Rock was designated the Douglas County seat shortly after, and by fall 1875 the town had a railroad depot on the D&RG line right where the museum stands today.

The museum's exhibits trace Castle Rock's pioneer, railroad, ranching, and town-building history. It also hosts a steady calendar of community programming — free guided walking tours of downtown Castle Rock from May through September, the annual Kid Day Craft Fair, Victoria's Tea, lectures, and the month-long Scavenge the Rock scavenger hunt each May.
