New History Exhibit Opens at Parker Heritage Center
A new exhibit at the Parker Heritage Center explores how trails, railroads, and roads shaped Douglas County into the community we know today.
About the Exhibit
"Tracks Across Our Land" is a temporary exhibit that traces the transportation routes that brought settlers, commerce, and eventually suburban development to the region.
What you'll see:
- Historic maps and photographs
- Stories of early travelers and settlers
- How the railroad transformed local communities
- The evolution from wagon trails to modern highways
Why It Matters
Before I-25, before C-470, before the subdivisions — there were trails. Understanding how people moved through this land helps explain why our towns are where they are and how Douglas County developed.
It's also a reminder that Parker, Castle Rock, and the surrounding communities weren't always bedroom suburbs of Denver. They had their own identities shaped by geography, resources, and the people who carved paths through the prairie.
