About the Role

Manages the clinical laboratory's operations, including direct leadership of technical associates. Schedules staff and monitors workflow to ensure efficient laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the clinical laboratory's operations, including direct leadership of technical associates.
  • Schedules staff and monitors workflow to ensure efficient laboratory operations.
  • Serves as a liaison with other laboratory departments and hospital services.
  • Selects, hires, trains, appraises performance, and takes corrective action for associates.
  • Investigates and resolves occurrence reports, compiling various reports and resolving issues.
  • Receives specimens, assesses priority, assures appropriate specimen identification and appropriate specimen type.
  • Coordinates implementation and validation of new analyzers, ensuring proficiency testing is assigned, tested, and submitted.
  • Monitors quality metrics and processes to meet goals, facilitating investigation, follow-up, and retraining with associates as needed.
  • Assists with resolution of unusual test orders by following up with reference lab, referring to lab leadership when appropriate.
  • Performs all levels of testing within the assigned discipline with a high level of competency, utilizing critical thinking skills to correlate and interpret data.
  • Leads and participates in laboratory performance improvement activities, promoting team building, employee engagement, patient satisfaction, and safety.
  • Follows safety policies including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling, and completes required training for handling hazardous waste.
  • May include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment.

  • Bachelor's [Required]
  • Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR Bachelor's degree equivalency with 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include: 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology; and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; AND have a laboratory training program that includes: completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES or the CAAHEP (this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above); or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs testing OR Successful completion of at least a 50-week official US military medical laboratory procedures training course and currently hold or have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician); or qualified and served as high complexity testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995 in a CLIA-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024, and have done so continuously since December 28, 2024. Required
  • 3+ years of MLS, MT, or MLT work experience in the clinical laboratory [Required]
  • Additional Licensure or certification requirements may apply depending on the specific unit or state in which this position is located.

Compensation

  • Base pay: $74,422.15 - $138,421.86/yr
