About the Role

We are adding Project Engineers to our Central Division of Kiewit to support our growing Infrastructure project portfolio around the country. You could be supporting power, major highway infrastructure projects, bridge projects, rail/transit, aviation, and/or water/wastewater facilties. All of our work is self-perform, and our Central teams are the first construction team to the site, performing site prep for the roads, bridges or industrial facilities. Our team performs concrete work (formwork, rebar, embeds, placement, finishing, and curing), mass grading/excavation, cut and fill, drainage, paving, underground piping and utility work, earthwork, site development, asphalt paving, and related activities in states across the central region of the US. As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the administrative and technical aspects of constructing a project, managing a team of field and cost engineers. In this role, you will be the main conduit of information between the Project or Construction Manager and the team for cost, revenue, cash flow information; and therefore, requires strong interpersonal and time management skills. Project Engineers may work as the Project Manager on some of our smaller projects and will be expected to develop the team below them.

Responsibilities

  • With regard to that portion of the work assigned, develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications.
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed.
  • Inspect subordinates' work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.
  • Develop and maintain the project master schedule using appropriate techniques and scheduling software with input from other project management personnel.
  • Manage document control; receive and log in new issue drawings and other contract documents; maintain document control log.
  • Review new issue drawings and contract documents for change of conditions; quantify impact of changes and review with supervisor; distribute new issues to field.
  • Prepare monthly cost projections using information generated from project management systems and prepare quarterly cash flow projections.
  • Improve project operations by recommending, as appropriate, better methods, staffing and procedural changes.
  • Act as managing project engineer/coordinator on multiple projects, providing supervision and on-the-job training for lower level engineers.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications. Visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
  • Manage and support project team including direct reports and others as needed
  • Help drive the company environmental health and safety programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering and 5+ years experience in construction as a project engineer or similar role performing functions as outlined above. If no degree, a minimum of 10 years experience in construction performing functions as outlined above. Experience with Self-perform construction is required.
  • Experience leading/mentoring Field Engineers on self-perform construction projects.
  • Ability to read, analyze and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents and identify and resolve those in the field.
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative with a Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time, commitment to ethics and integrity
  • Experience performing project engineering functions for power related projects, working with concrete, is preferred.
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
  • Competent in the use of computer software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, Sharepoint and Outlook, as well as experience with scheduling and financial systems is required
  • Experience with knowledge project controls functions/terminology and project scheduling and cost reporting/cost analysis for projects is required
  • Ability to travel and/or relocate as needed to projects that will vary in duration in the states listed above.

  • $116,000/yr - $121,000/yr
