About the Role

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers (KIE) has an immediate opening for a Design Engineering Manager to support our major infrastructure programs across the United States, Canada and US Virgin Islands. This position will be based in our Lone Tree, CO office to support projects remotely, with occassional travels to the project sites. The ideal candidate is a mid-level design leader that meets the "Qualitifications" below and has strong technical and coordination experience who is ready to take on increasing responsibility within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary infrastructure environment. The selected individual will support design management efforts during criteria development, preliminary design, final design, and construction support phases. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary engineering and design management team supporting alternative delivery infrastructure projects (e.g., design-build, progressive design-build, alliance, P3). KIE is a cutting-edge division of Kiewit that integrates engineering and construction expertise to improve schedule performance, control costs, and minimize risk. Through Kiewit's fully integrated design and construction approach, our teams collaborate closely with estimators and builders to deliver innovative, constructible, and safety-focused solutions. As an in-house resource, KIE supports projects across the company, sharing best practices and technical excellence nationwide. Responsibilities

  • Support management and coordination of multi-disciplinary design teams during project development and execution.
  • Assist senior design leadership with staffing plans, budgets, and schedules.
  • Monitor design progress and support adherence to scope, schedule, and quality objectives.
  • Coordinate with construction teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and constructible.
  • Identify project risks and assist in developing mitigation strategies.
  • Support preparation and management of subconsultant scopes, fee negotiations, and performance monitoring.
  • Participate in client and stakeholder meetings as required.
  • Assist in tracking and communicating schedule, quality, and financial performance metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and contract requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or architecture.
  • U.S. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred (required within a defined timeframe if not currently licensed).
  • 8–12 years of U.S. infrastructure experience, with a focus on utilities, roadway drainage, potable water, wastewater, or fiber.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a lead discipline, task lead, deputy design manager, or project engineering role.
  • Experience supporting multi-disciplinary heavy civil, transportation, bridge, rail/transit, or horizontal infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with design-build and/or progressive design-build delivery methods preferred.
  • Strong technical foundation in at least one infrastructure discipline.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to coordinate across geographically distributed teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, ethics, and delivering quality work.
  • Experience working with AI agents and tools preferred

  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.

  • May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.

Compensation

  • $180,000/yr - $215,000/yr
